With the encouragement of his wife Ann, Matt Goebel this year started his own business, Veritas Professional Development.

“We’re a professional development company, so what we do is, companies hire us to help develop their employees,” Goebel, the executive coach of Veritas, said. “So through coaching, through lunch and learns, through strategic planning, any of that kind of stuff, we’re going to do.”

He said Veritas works with any industry. Right now, they’re working with orthopedic and construction companies.

Goebel uses the Gallup Clifton Strengths Assessments and the Enneagram in his business. “Those are both personality test assessments so you’re looking at what are your top five talents, what kind of person are you, what do you do in conflict, what do you generally like doing. Stuff like that,” he explained.

Veritas serves clients beyond Kosciusko County. Goebel said he has clients in Philadelphia, Colorado, California and “all over the place.”

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, he said it was difficult to be in one central location with clients all over the country. Now, everything is virtual including meetings and interviews.

“As soon as COVID hit, I built a studio in my basement, and so everything is done out of there. Everything is virtual now,” he said.

Veritas has been in operation for about three months. Along with Goebel, he has a few other contract coaches.

“I was doing this with the YMCA for about three years before this, and then I stepped out with them,” Goebel said.

He said the “world of coaching” is an “up and coming thing.” Coaching, when it comes to businesses, has everything to do with asking a lot of questions, asking questions about do people know what they’re trying to do and more. “So we focus on the world of coaching when it comes to business.”
