United Way Provides Face Masks For Every Kindergartner In Kosciusko County

United Way and its sewing initiative, United We Sew, decided to do something about it. Volunteers sewed 1,300 small masks that fit just right. Masks were delivered to Warsaw Schools, Wawasee Schools, Tippecanoe Valley Schools and Pierceton Elementary.
“We have already made more than 7,000 masks for United Way and the community this year,” said Marsha Frantisak, sewing team leader. “We know what to do. The children in kindergarten needed something special. The adult masks were just too big. They slide down and or just don’t stay in place. United Way asked us to make a mask for every kindergartener, and that’s just what we did.”
On Sept. 25, United Way delivered the masks all over the county.
“United Way is in the business of helping children,” said Darren Bickel, president of United Way of Kosciusko County. “It is an honor to play a role in protecting our community’s kids. The United We Sew volunteers have heroically stepped forward during the pandemic. Thousands of people are wearing masks they made. With such incredible volunteer support, United Way continues to provide help for people who need it.”
