OAKLAND CITY - Friday the 13th turned out to be bad luck for Oakland City University when Indiana Wesleyan University came to town.

Warsaw native Kyle Mangas put on a shooting clinic to fell the Mighty Oaks, scoring 51 points in Wesleyan’s 114-70 dominating win.

Mangas’ mark set a new single-game scoring record for the school, eclipsing the 29-year old former record that was set in 1991, when Bruce Smith clipped IU-Kokomo for 44 points.

On setting the new record, a modest Mangas deferred all the credit to his teammates.

“We are just enjoying every chance we get to play ball with each other,” he said. “My teammates kept telling me to shoot it, so I kept firing it. The credit goes to them for hitting me with some great passes.”

Mangas' previous collegiate high mark was 40 points but his career high was set in high school when he finished the IHSAA regional game his senior year with 47 points.

Mangas, a 6’4 senior, stroked 21 straight points before finally missing with 15 minutes left in the second half.

For the game, he connected on 21 of 36 shots, including 7 three pointers and two free throws. He also contributed 6 rebounds and 5 assists.

“Nobody deserves to own the single game scoring mark more than Kyle Mangas. It’s about time!” remarked Head Coach Greg Tonagel.

Led by Mangas’ hot shooting, IWU has eclipsed 100 points in all but one game this season, outscoring their opponents 750-521. They remain undefeated on the season at 7-0.
