Todd Allen Cooley, 48, of Kalamazoo, Mich., was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 7:04 a.m. Oct. 31 and faces charges for manufacturing methamphetamine, a Level 4 felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
Pamela Louise Evans, 51, of Kalamazoo, Mich., was booked in KCJ at 8:39 a.m. Oct. 31 and faces charges for possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Monday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, at approximately 4:49 a.m. Oct. 31, a Warsaw police officer was on patrol when he observed a Chrysler PT Cruiser traveling on Detroit Street with no license plate.
When the vehicle pulled over for the traffic stop, Cooley was the driver and Evans was in the passenger seat. Cooley told police that Evans was complaining of facial numbness and they were on their way to Kalamazoo, according to the affidavit. When police asked Cooley if there was anything illegal in the car, according to court papers, Cooley admitted there was marijuana. Police found a half-burnt marijuana cigarette in the vehicle later.
Police then had the two exit the vehicle and called medics to check out Evans’ face.
During the time police were speaking with Cooley, according to the affidavit, Cooley said there was a methamphetamine lab in the vehicle behind the center console and that Evans didn’t know about it.
According to court papers, a search of the vehicle resulted in police finding a plastic bottle behind the center console, consistent with a bottle used in the production of methamphetamine. Cooley stated he had started manufacturing methamphetamine in the bottle approximately seven hours ago and that there was finished methamphetamine in the sun visor on the driver’s side of the vehicle.
Officers located a coffee filter containing methamphetamine and a glass smoking device that tested positive for methamphetamine.
Cooley told police he only manufactures methamphetamine for personal use, according to the affidavit.
When police spoke with Evans after she was released from the hospital, she admitted to ingesting methamphetamine on Oct. 27 in the vehicle using the glass smoking device.
Evans’ bond was set at $5,250. Cooley’s bond was set at $15,250.
