Lady Tigers Impress In Season Opener Vs. Squires

In a high school girls basketball opener for both teams, Grimm was an efficient 10 of 16 from the field and scored a game and career-high 24 points, leading the Lady Tigers to a 57-37 win over the host Manchester Lady Squires.
Grimm, a standout on the soccer field who recently signed to play that sport at Taylor University, scored 14 of her 24 points in the fourth quarter, helping Warsaw turn a three-point advantage into a 20-point win on a night the Lady Tigers were without head coach Lenny Krebs and four players due to Covid 19 issues.
“Audrey Grimm, what can you say, she just had a great game,” said Beer, coaching both the JV and varsity squads in Krebs’ absence.
“She is the catalyst to our defense, especially when we’re in our 1-3-1. She played a heck of a game, and the other girls played great, too.”
Warsaw led 21-15 after one quarter of play, highlighted by senior Kensie Ryman’s 30-footer at the buzzer, but only scored eight points in the second stanza and four in the third quarter.
The Lady Squires, who lost 82-39 at Warsaw a year ago, scored five points each in the second and third quarters.
Manchester was within three, 37-34, in the fourth quarter before Warsaw went on a 16-0 run and put the game out of reach.
“As far as the fourth-quarter run, it started with our defense,” said Beer. “We were telling the girls the whole game our offense would come with our defense. We were concerned with our offense because of all the girls we were missing. They really stepped up, and Audrey Grimm played a heck of a game.”
Ryman finished with nine points in the win, while junior Bailie Stephens added eight points and 10 assists, junior Abby Sanner and sophomore Lauren Grose scored six points each.
Senior Eva Bazzoni paced Manchester with 15 points, while junior Makenzy Meyer tallied 10 points.
