Opal was born on Sept. 10, 1932, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to the late Earl and Icie Adams Smith. She was married on June 11, 1948, in Salyersville, Ky., to Carmel Manns, who preceded her in death on May 16, 2019.
Opal was a homemaker, as well as working for 17 years for Peabody Retirement Community and 17 years as custodian for Sweetwater Assembly of God, both of North Manchester. She also was known to help folks who needed home health care.
She was a member of the Sweetwater Assembly of God of North Manchester. She loved cooking food for everyone and some to take home. She made wonderful pies and made a special pie for everyone. She always enjoyed family and the more they were with her the happier she was. She never forgot anyone on anniversaries, birthdays and holidays.
She is survived by daughters, Connie and husband John Malott, of Akron; and Vickie and husband Rodney Whitaker, of Akron; sons, Darrel Manns, of Akron; and Doug and wife Joanna Manns, of Akron; grandchildren, Christopher, Joshua, Sarah, Matthew, Jennifer, Lori, Logan, Jessica, Wesley, Kiley and Teri; 36 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul and wife Carol Smith, of Claypool.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carmel; brothers, Tom and Curtis Smith.
A private family service will be held at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. The service will be available virtually after 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9 on the Photos & Videos tab on hartzlerfuneralservices.com.
A public service will take place at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at Silver Creek Cemetery, Silver Lake, with Pastor Jeremy Jones officiating.
Masks will be required for all in attendance for the services for Mrs. Manns.
