Cremation garden 2 is full and there are no more lots there, Heagy said. The cemetery has created a third cremation garden.
For cremation garden 4, Heagy is in the process of redesigning it.
Heagy said with cremations on the rise, the cemetery has to have a place to put them.
He was initially going to design cremation garden 4 like 2 and 3, but decided “to go another way,” he said. “The main reason is guests want bigger stones and, in the cremation garden, you’re limited on size.”
The person will pay for the lot according to the stone, but it will be automatically 2-foot wide, and the length will depend on the stone. This way people can go to a full-size stone like they do in a single lot. Heagy said at September’s meeting, it was discussed that 36 inches was the biggest base a person could have. Heagy said he allocated 48 inches in the new cremation garden for the base so people can put down the full stone.
The way cremation garden 4 is designed, it’s more work for the cemetery staff to lay out, but there’s no upfront cost for the cemetery.
In other business, Beaver Dam Tree Service has taken out at least 15 trees this year, Heagy said.
The tree service is working right now and climbing trees and cutting off limbs called widow makers, Heagy said. One instance was where a tree service employee was cutting branches and ended up cutting the trunk and it was hollow in the core. Beaver Dam is currently working at the lake area of the cemetery.
Heagy said the cemetery is limited on funds, so Beaver Dam knows when to stop.
After the meeting, Heagy addressed an anonymous letter the Times-Union received in regards to some trees having “ribbons” on them and the person was wondering what was happening to those trees.
Heagy said those trees were marked in order to be trimmed.
Wood giveaway for people with vouches from Combined Community Services will begin Nov. 16.
People can go to CCS and get a voucher and the cemetery will give the person a truck load of wood a month to heat their homes. Every year is different, but the cemetery gives out 30 to 60 loads of wood a year. Heagy said it is to help people who need it.
