MENTONE – Town Marshal Jim Eads updated the Town Council Wednesday on the status of a police officer’s application to attend classes to be certified as a drug recognition expert.

The council, during its October meeting, approved officer Sam Bohnke to go to those classes. The classes would be broken up into two locations

Eads said letters of recommendation for Bohnke were received and sent to the Indiana Drug Evaluation and Classification Program, as well as the first part of the application. Eads said they haven’t heard anything back yet.

Mentone Utilities Superintendent Josh Shepherd updated the town council Wednesday on some things his department is overseeing.

The utilities department laid 340 feet of 10-inch pipe along Broadway Street and added three catch basins.

Shepherd said he hoped the work would benefit the homes along Broadway Street and the utilities department can possibly do some work in the other “bad spots” in that area.

Two intersections of Broadway Street have been updated with ADA ramps on the sidewalks, he said. Shepherd said he hopes, in the future, more sidewalks can be worked on because “they’re in bad shape.”

The parking lot of Subway  on Main Street was also resealed and striped. He said he is looking to stripe part of Broadway Street, but didn’t state when he think that would get done.

The next meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 2.
