Karin McGrath was my appointed public defender back at a time when my addiction got the best of me. From the first time we met, I could tell she wasn’t a typical lawyer. She took the time to explain my charges and the law in detail and she answered all my questions. Beyond her obvious knowledge and experience, she made sure I was getting the treatment I needed. She reminded me that I was more than my addiction and that I deserved better than the life of an addict.

As my case worked through the system, Karin met with me several times. She didn’t try to “get me off on a technicality.” Instead, she encouraged me to take responsibility for my actions and she worked hard to find a way to show that I was on the right path again – clean, healthy and committed to staying that way. Yes, it took extra time. But that’s who she is.

That was almost two years ago. Since that time, I successfully completed my sentence, I’ve stayed clean and I’ve gotten back my very best life full of love and fun and friends.  I believe a typical defense lawyer would have shuffled me through the system and back to the street, and that’s why I thank God that Karin was my lawyer and that she’s so committed to doing her best for the good of others. She truly treats each person she encounters with dignity and respect no matter what their path.

That’s why she will be an amazing judge. She believes there’s a price to pay when the law is broken, but she is also a true believer in restoration when people are ready to change. She knows the law, she has the experience and she works harder and cares more than anyone.

Please vote for Karin McGrath for judge of Superior 3.
