Valley Seniors Parade Through Akron And Mentone To Celebrate Graduation

“This was kind of a community idea,” said TVHS Principal Brandon Kreska.
It came from some community members that wanted to honor the 115 seniors and to have some sort of closure to the year.
A few weeks ago, Kreska said the school sent out a letter and some information about the parade, stating the school was planning it. TVHS then sent out some more detailed information about the expectations, route and other information last week.
“With working through the parameters and the guidelines, we kind of tried to come up with something that would allow us to do that on the last day of school to celebrate the seniors in a safe way,” Kreska said.
Friday was the last day of eLearning for the school.
“We kind of thought it would be nice to coincide this parade with the last day of school and thank our seniors,” he said.
A route was planned for the parade to follow.
Kreska said the school wanted to “hit Akron and Mentone.” The seniors met between Tippecanoe Valley Middle School and TVHS.
The parade started at TVHS, headed north into Mentone and then to Akron. The parade ended at the intersection of Ind. 19 and Ind. 114.
Communities and families will “be out for sure,” Kreska said before the parade started. He expected some members of the community to be on the street line waiting for the parade. He knew some area businesses were going to be displaying signs, as well.
Kreska said this year’s seniors have missed out on a lot of events, including prom, senior skip day “and the prank.” The school usually also has a cookout every year.
“This can’t replace that at all, but it’s a token of appreciation for them,” Kreska said.
“I hope (the seniors) realize how much the community appreciates them,” said Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation Superintendent Blaine Conley.
