Susan Darlene Rohrer, a longtime Claypool resident, passed away at 12:30 a.m. on Friday, May 15, 2020, in Warsaw at the age of 76.

Darlene was born on July 30, 1943, in Blackford County, to Eileen May Ford Banter and Leo Harley Banter. Her mother passed away in 1963, and her step-mother, Helen Banter, became a part of her life. On March 30, 1986, she was married to Noble Leon Rohrer. They shared 32 years of marriage together before he passed away on Oct. 15, 2018.

Darlene graduated from Roll High School in Blackford County. She attended Taylor University for one year and later graduated from Kokomo School of Practical Nursing.

She worked for many years as a nurse at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw, caring for many residents over the years.  She had a heart for caring and helping others.  She moved on and became the assistant director of nursing at Grace Village Retirement Community of Winona Lake and enjoyed all of the people she met while working there. She was a member of Pathway Church in Warsaw, Kosciusko Nurses Society, and she and her late husband, Leon were members of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA).  Darlene was a loving mother, grandmother and sister … she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two sons:  Wesley R. (Mary Kittrell) Gearheart, Warsaw; Dustin B. Gearheart, Warsaw; two stepsons: Michael (Lily) Rohrer, Claypool; Jeffrey (Melanie) Rohrer, Claypool. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and her sister, S. Diane (Larry) Meyers, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; stepdaughter, Rita Sabo; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday May 20 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw.  Due to the current, unprecedented guidelines limiting public gatherings due to the COVID-19 virus and safety concerns the visitation is limited to 25 people at a time. Please use good judgment in determining the length of your visit or if you should attend. There will be no congregating in the parking lot and physical distancing of 6 feet is mandatory.

Darlene’s life will be celebrated with a service following visitation at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home and officiated by Pastor Jarod Osborne.  Burial will follow with a graveside service at Graceland Cemetery, Claypool. Please follow social distancing guidelines at the cemetery as well.
