Tippecanoe Valley Superintendent Blaine Conley said the grading policies will be looked at “just because of how we closed the year out” since schools have been shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have used eLearning.
The school corporation is just going to evaluate the elementary and middle school students. The school corporation already approved a grading policy for its high school students in April.
“This is just for the situation we’re dealing with right now,” Conley said. He said they will be going back to regular grading policies after the school corporation gets through “what we’re going through right now.”
The valedictorian and salutatorian will be recognized during the board meeting Monday.
The high school previously announced its valedictorian and salutatorian for the 2019-20 school year are Kirstyn Yoder and Quintin B. Allen.
“They’re outstanding kids” that the school board has recognized several times, Conley said. “They are going to graduate and do some fantastic things.”
The school board also will be asked to approve several hiring and firings of personnel.
One of the hirings to be approved is Jonathan Tinkey as a social studies teacher at Tippecanoe Valley High School. Conley said Tinkey is interested in starting an e-sports club at the high school.
“That’ll be one of the first e-sports clubs in the area,” Conley said. He said Tinkey is on board and hopefully it’ll get a lot of students involved in that at the high school.
The school board will be asked to approve two grants and will be updated on the softball facility project, Conley said. A lot of fencing has gone down.
“Hopefully, the rain can wait until we get some seeding down,” Conley said.
