Magiera Over Banks

Editor, Times-Union:

Our current congressman, Jim Banks is a likable person.  However, he does not understand the Constitution.

Jim Banks evaluates laws based on their utility as opposed to their constitutionality.

First example: Indiana has a red flag law that allows law enforcement to remove firearms quickly from people thought to be a danger. The state then holds a full hearing within 21 days to determine if the weapons should be returned. Imagine that the government takes your guns away and then three weeks later decides if you can have them back.

This is what Jim Banks said about Indiana’s red flag law: “It’s questionable whether or not red flag laws work but Indiana has one and we can judge whether or not they’re effective from that.” Source: Dirk Rowley, 08/20/2019, Wane 15. Jim Banks thinks the government has the authority to infringe upon “… shall not be infringed.

Second example: Jim Banks cosponsored the TAPS Act HR 838 on 06/21/2019.

The TAPS Act HR 838 would create a new bureaucracy that would authorize federal and state government agents to “identify individuals who are exhibiting patterns of concerning behavior” and then “manage” those Americans. It is totally unconstitutional.

Dr. Chris Magiera is a Republican candidate for Congress.  He is a physician, not a career politician, so he can’t be bought.

Republican Dr. Chris Magiera will work to return power to the states and citizens by only voting for legislation that aligns with the original intent of the Constitution.

On June 2, please join me in voting for Republican Dr. Chris Magiera, the Constitution solution to defend our God-given rights and liberties.
