Please allow me to use this public forum to express my thoughts on the candidates in the upcoming June 2 Republican Kosciusko county primary election.

Based on my years serving our local community at the local and state levels, I first want to express my appreciation to the four filed candidates for their interest in seeking the position of Judge Superior Court III. The personal demands on the time of their families will be major as will their professional knowledge in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this office. Their decisions will affect many other families, citizens and visitors in the community.

As my mentor, former Indiana governor and Secretary of Health & Human Services under President Reagan, Doc Bowen always encouraged any and all to run for public office. I likewise agree and applaud all of the four candidates for Superior Court III.

With that said, one looks to experience for the office sought and in doing this one of the four candidates stands above the other three.

This candidate served seven years as a deputy prosecuting attorney (DPA), as two others have, and judge pro tem (JPT). However one candidate has extensive service in civil, family estate planning, zoning land use, landlord tenant and the so critical criminal defense and felony bench and jury trials that come before and are heard in Superior Court III. To the other candidates, what is your answer to your experience, especially trying criminal defense and felony bench and jury trials in Superior Court III?

As I review, the one candidate who comes to the top in service experience is Karin McGrath and I trust all Republican primary voters will give her candidacy their consideration.
