MISHAWAKA – Local VFW posts and auxiliaries have a chance to win a $1,000 grant when veterans order from Burger King restaurants between Monday and May 16.

It is part of the VFW UnMet Needs partnership between Burger King and the VFW Foundation in celebration of Armed Forces Week, according to a news release from Quality Dining Inc.

VFW posts and auxiliaries can qualify in one of two ways:

• Submit copies of Burger King receipts dated during the contest time period. You may visit your local Burger King restaurant as often as you like during the promotion.

• Or submit screenshots of your social media posts during the contest period time.

Posts must include a photo of an Armed Forces member or veteran at a Burger King drive-through, order pick-up or with their Burger King food delivery and include the #thankBK hashtag along with your post number.

Entries must be submitted to [email protected] and received during the contest period, according to the news release.

Each entry will be included in the prize drawing, and each post/auxiliary that is drawn will receive a $1,000 VFW Foundation Community Support Group to be used for a community service project of their choice.

The VFW Foundation is giving away a total of 10 grants.

In addition to the contest, all Burger King restaurants operated by Quality Dining Inc. are safely providing a free small coffee to all service members and veterans via drive-through or dining room service Monday through May 16.

The UnMet Needs program provides grants and referrals to active duty service members, veterans and their immediate families to assist with basic life needs, including but not limited to assistance paying utility bills, home repairs and other expenses.

Since 2008, Quality Dining and its customers have donated more than $1.6 million to the UnMet Needs Foundation.
