The bridal shower was for Liza Airgood, 21, Claypool, and Jake Stephan, 22, Huntington.
Airgood said they are planning on getting married June 20 at a church in Silver Lake. As of right now, Airgood said the couple are planning the wedding as if it’s going through. However, if it’s not safe or the government doesn’t want them to hold the wedding as it’s currently planned, changes will be made.
On Tuesday, people drove up into the parking lot of the church and handed out their bridal gift to the couple and in return the couple gave a box of treats to the gift bearers. Some people talked with the couple when giving them their gifts.
Asenath Wilson, vice president of Claypool United Methodist Women, said a pound shower was initially organized in January by the group for Tuesday for the couple to get their kitchen set up.
“It’s a kitchen shower,” Wilson said, explaining what a pound shower was. She initially said the couple could get things like tea towels and other things for their kitchen.
The pound shower eventually was changed into a regular bridal shower so the couple could receive more than kitchenware for gifts.
Wilson initially called group members and then called people on the church registry, telling them about the bridal shower.
Airgood said the initial plan was to have the bridal shower in the church. Wilson said there would have an announcement during church about the bridal shower had it gone with the original plans.
“I think it’s going better than it would have if we did it that way,” Airgood said.
“I think people want to get out, and I think this gives them a reason to get out,” Wilson said.
