Besides Warsaw, Prestige has workers in many other Indiana cities who will be affected, including Fort Wayne, Elkhart, Indianapolis and South Bend among others. The WARN did not indicate how many of its workers being laid off provided janitorial services at the Kohl’s in Warsaw.
The Plano, Texas-based company sent a letter to Workforce Development to provide notice that it was laying off the employees due to the emerging COVID-19 crisis. Prestige provides janitorial services for J.C. Penney and Kohl’s stores throughout Indiana, which are shutting down through at least today due to the pandemic, the letter states.
On March 18, Prestige received notice that J.C. Penney’s stores would close from March 19 to April 1; and then on March 21 learned Kohl’s was closing its stores from March 22 through April 1.
“While these closures are expected to be temporary, plans to reopen are subject to change due to the rapidly evolving COVID-19 situation,” according to the letter.
Of the 69 positions affected by the layoffs, 44 are custodians, 14 are lead custodians and 11 are porters.
