Holly McCammack, who lives in Warsaw and is a certified sports official, is inviting everyone in Kosciusko County to go on a bear hunt.
The “bear hunt” she is referring to means putting a stuffed teddy bear in your window so people who walk or drive by can look for bears and be uplifted when they find them.
“I saw this going on a bear hunt in a few different locations and then when I actually did a Google search on it, I saw just how big it is and the positive impact it’s been making in different communities across the nation,” McCammack said. “I thought, ‘Why not Warsaw?’”
She said she posted the idea on the Next Door app and got a lot of good feedback from that, so now she’s trying to see if she can get it to catch on.
“A lot of communities have had the town square, for example, they’ve really gotten into it, and the storefronts, they’re really cute,” she said. “A lot of these places aren’t able to work, but maybe they’d be willing to go in and decorate the windows so if families are walking around downtown. It’s just a real opportunity for people to give back that doesn’t cost anything. It’s just your time and your heart, and right now it’s time to uplift each other in every way we can.”
McCammack said she remembers as a girl going on scavenger hunts and said the bear hunt could even turn into something like that.
“Not everybody is going to have a teddy bear, and that’s fine.?You can literally soap your own window, put your American flag up, you can do so many different things that when people are taking a walk they can write down say, I saw a zebra here, three bears in this window, an American flag in this window,” she said. “It’s an easy way to help uplift everyone.”
McCammack described herself as an NCAA official, a grandma and said she hopes this will help kids who are getting cabin fever and are bored to tears.
