GOP FISH FRY – With the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the world and Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s stay-at-home order effective until 11:59 p.m. April 6, the April 1 Kosciusko County Republican Party fish fry had to be postponed.

Central Committee Chair Mike Ragan called Friday to let us know a new date has been scheduled. It will be 4 to 7 p.m. May 6 at the Kosciusko County fairgrounds Home & Family Arts Building.

Hopefully, he said, the fish fry will be in the dining room and available for carryout. If the dining room can’t be used due to an extension of the order, the carryout will still take place. “We don’t plan to change it,” Ragan said.

Also, if the fish fry is carryout only, Ragan said the west gate of the fairgrounds will be open to make carryout easier.

LINCOLN DAY DINNER – Another tidbit Ragan informed us of Friday was that he was in contact with the governor’s office and Holcomb “definitely’ plans to be the keynote speaker at the Kosciusko Republicans’ Lincoln Day Dinner once that is scheduled.

The date was originally set for April 16. Ragan said a new date for the dinner won’t be finalized until after it’s safe for large groups to gather again. Ragan hopes it’s before the primary, which was moved to June 2.

LIVIN’ LARGE – What kind of home does a medical device CEO live in?

According to a Feb. 27 article on therealdeal.com, Bryan C. Hanson, CEO of Zimmer Biomet, “snagged a unit at Residences by Armani/Casa in Sunny Isles Beach for $6 million, marking one of the first closings at the new luxury development.”

Hanson and his wife, Amanda, purchased unit 5400 at the 308-unit condo tower at 18975 Collins Ave., the story states.

Hanson was appointed CEO of Zimmer Biomet, which is headquartered in Warsaw, in December 2017.

Real Deal points out that Residences by Armani/Casa is the first Armani/Casa-branded building in the United States. The tower was designed by César Pelli, with units ranging in size from 1,350 square feet to 4,700. Condos are priced from $1.6 million to more than $17 million.

FUN ONLINE – The Kosciusko County Convention & Visitors Bureau on Friday launched a contest on its Facebook page @VisitKosciuskoCounty that encourages residents and visitors to “ReLive Kosciusko County Moments.”

We shared it on our Facebook page, too.

“Because of our social responsibility values, we do not want to actively promote travel at this time. So we thought this would be a fun way for residents and past visitors both to share our pride in place and keep K-County experiences top of mind,” according to an email from the Bureau.

WORKER RELIEF – After casting a “Yes” vote on the phase 3 coronavirus relief bill, The CARES Act, Rep. Jim Banks (IN-03) released the following statement:

“This bill will keep the lights on in America. It is chiefly designed to put cash in the hands of Americans who need help with bills and making sure food stays on the table. I would have written a different bill – I am dismayed to see some pork stuffed into this one. I also wish it could have passed earlier this week, before Speaker Pelosi interrupted the process.

“Unlike a bailout, where a business fails and comes to the U.S. taxpayer for help, this is a relief package in response to a natural disaster. Businesses were forced to close for no other reason than it’s unsafe to remain open.

“We did not ask for this fight, an enemy arrived on our shores. And once we defeat this virus, our economy will heal.

“I thank President Trump and other Republicans who overcame obstacles and got this done.”

FOOD MAP – The Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, in partnership with the state’s  food banks, the Indy Hunger Network and Feeding Indiana’s Hungry, has developed a statewide, interactive map that will help Hoosiers seeking food assistance find what they need. The map is online at www.in.gov/fssa/dfr/5768.htm, and will be prominently featured at www.fssa.in.gov. The map can be used on desktop/laptop computers and mobile devices.
