With Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s announcement Friday that the state’s primary is being moved to June 2, there’s not much that hasn’t been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

Holcomb joined Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Republican Party Chair Kyle Hupfer and Democratic Party Chair John Zody Friday to announce an agreement to move the date of this year’s Indiana primary election from May 5 to June 2.

Holcomb signed an executive order to suspend Indiana’s election statute and move the dates. The executive order can be found online at www.in.gov/gov/2384.htm.

The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) also announced Friday afternoon that a third Hoosier has died of COVID-19. The patient was an adult resident of Marion County over age 60 who had been hospitalized.

ISDH reported 23 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing to 79 the number of Hoosiers diagnosed through ISDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and private laboratories. All but one are adults.

Other announcements, cancellations and postponements made Friday include:

• Starting Monday, Advanced Disposal will be implementing some changes to the residential trash services due to the public health emergency.

All trash should be bagged and placed in an Advanced Disposal cart as Advanced Disposal will no longer be servicing any items outside of the containers to limit its employees’ exposure.

Also, in order to protect and limit employees’ exposure, the bulk item and spring cleanup programs will be suspended until further notice.

Advanced Disposal is the company that the town of Winona Lake contracts with for trash and recycling services.

For questions, call Advanced Disposal at 800-298-1001 or the Winona Lake Town Hall at 574-267-7581.

• With Holcomb and Lawson announcing Friday that the Indiana Primary Election will be moved to June 2 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and due to the restrictions regarding people gathering in close proximity, the Kosciusko County Republican Fish Fry will be moved from April 1 to May 6 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Additionally, the 2020 Kosciusko County Lincoln Day Dinner with speakers Governor Eric Holcomb and 2nd District Jackie Walorski scheduled for April 16 has been postponed. The rescheduled date and other details for this event may be released in the next few days. For those that have reserved seating for the Lincoln Day, reservations will automatically be forwarded to the new date.

• Campbell & Fetter Bank is partnering with The Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association to collect funds for Combined Community Services and the Salvation Army to provide assistance to individuals and families in need who are affected by work reduction or layoff due to the crisis.

Tax-deductible donations may be made at the drive-up and will be given to the GWMA, which will distribute them to both agencies.

Checks also may be mailed to GWMA, PO Box 1797, Warsaw, IN 46581-1797.

• Warsaw Community Schools sent out a news release Friday with the following school calendar updates to be in effect until May 1. The extension of eLearning is due to Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s order on Thursday that all K-12 school buildings remain closed until May 1. Although physical buildings are closed, the education of all k-12 WCS students continues. Students will engage in eLearning on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. WCS will not post eLearning lessons during the scheduled spring break (April 6-10).

Additionally, WCS received an update from the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) announcing the cancellation of the upcoming spring 2020 assessments. The IDOE memo is available on the district website at warsawschools.org.

WCS will continue to evaluate the situation and will communicate updates as they become available.

The annual tree sale program is cancelled for 2020. For those who already placed orders, a refund will be sent back to them.

The monthly April board meeting, set for April 7, also has been cancelled.

The spring Food Plot Seed program, scheduled for May, is uncertain at this point as the SWCD is not sure it will be able to pick up or disseminate seed.
