Born on Aug. 27, 1940, in Whitaker, Ky., Callie was the daughter of the late Onda Akers and Beulah M. Bays Akers. She was a graduate of Pierceton High School and continued her education in connection with her professional career with focuses in real estate, accounting and business management. She retired in 2003 after working with Dave Carey for many years in his businesses.
Callie was an outgoing, social person who rarely knew a stranger. She was incredibly smart and witty and had a strong work ethic. In her free time, she enjoyed painting, traveling, watching Westerns and was a lover of Country music, especially Hank Williams Sr.
Callie was united in marriage to Robert Shafer on Oct. 7, 1960; he survives in Warsaw. Also surviving are son, Onda “Eric”(Kathy) Shafer, of Warsaw; brother, Steven (Marie) Akers, of Warsaw; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Phillip Shafer; an infant brother; and three sisters: Bobby Jean Arnett, Betty Jo Irwin and an infant sister.
A Life Celebration® is planned with Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 19 from 3 to 7 p.m. Burial will take place on Friday, March 20 in Oakwood Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at Titus Funeral Home at 10 a.m. for the procession.
