Gorhe 2nd Place At Regional Bee

Lincoln Elementary’s Titiksha Gorhe finished second in Saturday’s Regional Spelling Bee in Fort Wayne.

The sixth-grader won the Kosciusko County 2020 Spelling Bee on Feb. 4 to advance to the 66th Annual Journal Gazette Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday. Fifteen county spelling bee champions from northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio competed at Purdue University Fort Wayne’s Rhinehart Music Center.

Jude Hoeffel, 13, an eighth-grader from Garrett Middle School in DeKalb County, won the spelling bee, presented by STAR Financial Bank, on Saturday. In the 27th round of spelling, Hoeffel correctly spelled “farrier” to win the bee. He is the son of Gregg and Marcia Hoeffel.

Hoeffel will represent northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio at the 93rd Annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. at the end of May.

In addition to winning an all expenses paid trip to compete in the National competition, he also receives The Samuel Louis Sugarman award, a one-year subscription to Merriam-Webster Unabridged Online, and a one-year subscription to Encyclopaedia Brittannica Online Premium.

Gorhe, 12, the daughter of Devendra and Pradnya Gorhe,  won the grades 5 & 6 division as well as being the overall spelling bee champion at the Kosciusko County Spelling Bee.
