BOURBON – Triton sophomore guard Ashton Oviedo led the Trojan boys basketball team to a pair of wins last week, clinching a winning season for the team and giving the squad some needed momentum heading into this week’s sectional tournament.

For that effort, Oviedo has been named the Times-Union Athlete of the Week for Feb. 24-29.

The week before, Triton lost a pair of tough ball games, one at the buzzer to Rochester at the Trojan Trench and another in overtime at Tippecanoe Valley.

Last week began with Oviedo scoring 15 points in 30 minutes in a win at Marshall County rival Bremen Feb. 28. The guard then scored 13 points in 28 minutes in a home win over Knox Friday night that also gave his team a winning record in the Hoosier North Athletic Conference.

Oviedo followed that with an 18-point effort in the Class 1A Sectional opener in a win over West Central on Tuesday.

Triton (13-10, 4-3 HNAC) takes on LaCrosse in a sectional semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
