Wednesday morning, the Kosciusko Chamber of Commerce and Warsaw Parks and Recreation Department hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the reconstructed and much-improved amphitheater.
Parks Superintendent Larry Plummer said, “Back in 1984, we built the first amphitheater using telephone poles borrowed from the Sprint Telephone Company and old picnic table boards. So, we came from that to this beautiful thing we have today.”
He said an “awesome” job was done on it and thanked Bob Lyions with Roche Constructors, the general contractor; city engineer James Emans and city Senior Planner Justin Taylor at the Planning Department; Mike and Kim Bradford, Bradford’s Outdoor Creations; Parks Maintenance Director Shaun Gardner and the Parks employees for a lot of the work they did; and the Parks Board and Warsaw Common Council for backing the project.
“I think this is going to be a great amenity to the public. We’re going to have weddings, we’re going to have concerts, we’re going to have learning opportunities here. We’re going to have church services. It’s unending what we can do with this place, so I’d just like to thank everybody involved,” Plummer said, and then thanked Chamber President and CEO Rob Parker for having the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
“Thank you for your vision. This is gorgeous,” Parker replied.
“It does my heart well to see what we came from, the telephone poles and picnic tables. Thank you, everyone,” Plummer said.
Chamber Member Relations Manager Scott Wiley asked if people could rent the amphitheater.
Plummer said, “When we get over the whole COVID-19 thing, you can go online to rent it or right now just call the Parks Office to rent it. We’re actually opening it up July 4, and we have a wedding planned on the first day and a church service the day after. So it’s booking up quick and things are going well.”
The amphitheater’s maximum seating capacity is 280, but due to COVID-19 and social distancing, Plummer said seating is being restricted to 150 people.
