A Syracuse man was arrested in Kentucky for allegedly taking his friend’s vehicle after his friend refused to drive him to Alabama.

Dustin Curtis William Wright, 29, of 302 N. Harrison St., Syracuse, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 11:47 p.m. Monday and faces a Level 6 felony charge of auto theft.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed June 5 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on May 18 Silver Lake police spoke with a man who said Wright had stayed the night May 17 and asked the man to drive him to Alabama.

The man declined and went to bed. When the man awoke the next day, according to court papers, he noticed his vehicle, Wright and all of Wright’s bags were gone.

The lending company the man purchased the vehicle from said they would be able to track the vehicle through a GPS tracker in the vehicle. Police were then able to determine the vehicle was traveling on Highway 238 in Kentucky, close to Bowling Green.

Silver Lake police contacted Kentucky State Police and informed them of the situation, according to the affidavit. A Kentucky State Trooper conducted a traffic stop on the stolen vehicle, and Wright was the lone occupant, according to court papers. He was booked in the Warren County Regional Jail. It was also discovered that Wright was driving with a suspended license.

His bond was set at $10,650.
