Three vehicles were involved in a collision Monday afternoon at the intersection of Market and Indiana streets, downtown Warsaw.

While Lutheran EMS was called to the scene to check out drivers and passengers, no one was transported to the hospital from the scene.

The accident happened at about 5:40 p.m. Monday.

According to witnesses at the scene, a black Expedition was going north on Indiana Street, with a black Ford Edge facing south, waiting on Indiana Street, to turn left to go east on Market Street.

Dylan Lawson, a passenger in the Expedition driven by his wife, said they had the green light and about halfway across Market Street, he looked to his right and saw a red Volkswagen Beetle coming west on Market Street at a high rate of speed. Lawson told his wife to hurry, but the Beetle hit the Expedition, which then spun and almost tipped over, but was stopped by the front of the Edge.

“She was going pretty fast. It’s only 30 miles per hour through here, not 60,” Lawson said of the Beetle driver.

Although one of the children in the Expedition complained of nose pain, Lawson said everyone was OK.

Jodi Conley, the driver of the Edge, said she was sitting at the red light, with the Expedition going north on Indiana. The light turned green and she was waiting for the Expedition to get through intersection so she could turn left to go east on Market Street.

Conley said the Volkswagen was going fast and when it hit the Expedition, the Expedition spun, went on its two left tires and almost flipped until it hit her Edge and landed back on all four tires.

Witness Mickila Heinfeld said if it wasn’t for the Edge, the Expedition would have flipped on its side.

Conley said it all happened quickly but she was OK.

“I was surprised I had such a dent. I didn’t think (the Expedition) hit that hard,” Conley said.

As for the Volkswagen, she said, “It was obvious she wasn’t going to stop.”

Warsaw Police Department investigated.

No further information was available at press time.
