MENTONE – Michael D. Jones, 65, of rural Rochester (Talma), passed away at 2:54 a.m. Tuesday, June 9, 2020, at his residence.

Mike was born on Dec. 7, 1954, in Taylorville, Ill., to Aubrey and Mary Ann Virden Jones. He was married on Dec. 14, 1999, in Gatlinburg, Tenn., to Pamala Jordan Yochum; she survives.

He was a truck and diesel mechanic as well as a driver for General Transfer of Rochester, Metzger Trucking of Silver Lake and RB & Son Truck Repair of Rochester. He had also hauled grain for many area farmers. Lastly, he retired from Nickles Bakery of Elkhart where he had also been a mechanic.

He was a 1973 graduate of Mentone High School. He was a member of the Teamsters and had his CDL for many years. As a young man he was a member of the Gun and Rifle Club. He enjoyed NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, feeding birds, gardening, coin collecting, clock collecting and cutting wood. He was a vintage car and tractor enthusiast. He also was an avid mushroom and arrowhead hunter and enjoyed going to auctions.

Survivors include wife, Pam Jones, Rochester; daughter, Melody Jones, Seattle, Wash.; son, Matt and wife Aulbrey Jones, Etna Green; mother, Mary Ann Jones, Rochester; grandchildren: Lukas, Ryan, Tanner, Toby, Alaina, Lexie, Patrick, Mason, Mariah, Caylan, Shelby and Sophie; stepchildren: Rob and wife Shannon Yochum, Windsor, Ark.; Julie and husband Pat Oconnell, Warsaw; Jim and wife Melanie Yochum, Rochester; Jody and husband Kelly Koons, Springdale, Ark.; Jen and husband Michael Becker, Talma; siblings: Richard Jones, Dan and wife Jennifer Jones, Charlotte and husband Roger Ramsey and Bev and husband Mark Floor; aunts; uncles; nieces; nephews; friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Aubrey; and canine friends, Jefferson and Jack.

Visitation hours will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 12 at King Memorial Home, Mentone. Following county, state, federal and CDC guidelines, the funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, June 12, 2020, at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with Pastor Rodney Ruberg officiating.

Private interment will take place in the Reichter Cemetery.
