NORTH MANCHESTER – The town council reconvened at the public safety building for an in-person meeting Wednesday night.

Town attorney Matt Mize opened an asphalt bid in an annual process to solicit pricing. The bid was awarded to Gaunt and Son of Wabash.

Tax abatement renewals for various businesses, including Shepherd’s Family Auto and Precision Medical Technologies, were also approved.

Brooke Vanderpool, of Manchester Alive, spoke to the council about a recent loss of local investors due to companies having been closed or shut down, and asked for the town’s continued support.

Council President Allen Miracle praised Vanderpool’s efforts and assured the nonprofit has “done the right thing” in choosing to cancel the Fun Fest for the safety of the community.

Some events are still planned or have been modified. There will be a high school graduating senior parade June 12 at 7 p.m. Seniors should remain in their vehicles and will be escorted by police from Market to 2nd Street, on to Mill and back to the high school.

Fireworks are scheduled for July 4 but will be held at the high school instead of the university.

The council approved North Manchester Library board renewals for members Michael Leckrone and Kathy Garber, both of whom are starting their second term.

Town Manager Adam Penrod announced the bid opening for phase 2 crack-sealing work on Wayne and Main streets will be at 2 p.m. June 24.

The council will next meet at 7 p.m. July 1.
