BOURBON – The Bourbon Town Council held a special meeting Tuesday to open bids for street paving.

The town was the recipient of a Community Crossing Grant and that funding will pay for the work.

Five bids were received: Niblock Excavating, $278,937.50; Phend and Brown Inc., $368,687.69; Reiff Riley Construction, $419,524.73; E & B Paving Inc., $278,077.19; and Walsh & Kelly, $325,451.

Council President Ward Byers and council member Les McFarland stated that they would take the matter under advisement so JPR representatives could check the bids for accuracy. Council member P.J. Handley was absent from the meeting. Plans are to award the bid at the June 9 council meeting.

They are anticipating being able to open the meeting site to the public, as well as continuing to livestream the meeting via the Bourbon Town Facebook site.

In other matters, Police Chief Bill Martin presented the letter of resignation of Sgt. Rick Kanarr, effective today. Kanarr served both the Bourbon Police Department and the Marshall County Sheriff Department. He leaves the Bourbon Department as the evidence technician, scheduler, IDACS director, LESO representative and reserve officer’s information gathering duties.
