By Staff Report-

Alyson Owens, a Warsaw Community High School junior and daughter of Andy and Jennifer Owens, was recognized as the WCHS JROTC DAR Outstanding Female Cadet.

She was awarded a certificate and bronze medal by Agnes Pruyn Chapman Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). In addition to this award, she was also presented the Military Excellence Award by the American Legion.

The JROTC activity that Owens was involved in was a battalion staff (S5) position that included making contact with media, historian duties, taking pictures and making entries for the JROTC Facebook page.

Her favorite class was physical training in which she was the leader for her class.  As a class leader she, along with the other four class leaders and the cadet battalion command sergeant major, developed physical training plans so that no class had a harder or easier session than the other classes.

Owens feels that being in JROTC has made her more focused in school work and activities, according to a news release from the DAR.

Besides JROTC activities, Owens enjoys dance. Her future plan is to attend college for dance and counseling.

Friedrich Josellis, MAJ (R), SAI and CSM Mitchell are the sponsors for JROTC at WCHS.
