According to a report from Michiana Area Council Of Governments’ (MACOG) Donny Ritsema and Zach Dripps, they studied the parking over the last year and broke it up into five areas surrounding the “island,” town hall, northeast neighborhood, Grace College and south neighborhood.
They observed typical parking activity during the weekdays, which did not include seasonal or event times, they said.
The first thing they looked at was dwelling units and single-family homes. Their study hopes to help make the streets more efficient.
Town Manager Craig Allebach said people can now park overnight in the overflow parking lot next to the water department and Chestnut Avenue also had parking spots painted.
The entire parking study can be viewed online at www.winonalake.net.
The council also agreed Tuesday to contribute $25,000 to the Kosciusko Community Foundation for the Mitch Titus Memorial Firefighter Training Fund that will help pay for firefighter training classes for firefighters in the county.
A 2030 comprehensive plan also was discussed, which included talks of sidewalks in front of every residence so people don’t have to walk on the streets and adding lights, cameras and WiFi to the trails.
The next Winona Lake Town Council meeting is 6 p.m. Aug. 18 at Town Hall.
