William I. Long, 87, passed away at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, 2020, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw.

He was born Jan. 13, 1933, in Etna Green, to Isaac and Madeline Barth Long. On June 24, 1956, in Bourbon, he married Beverly Huggins; together they shared 59 years before her passing on May 4, 2016.

He attended Warsaw Community High School. He proudly served in the Army as a corporal (T), D Company 5th Infantry Regiment from March 5, 1953 – Dec. 17, 1954. Bill farmed and, along with his wife, owned and operated Hoffman Lake Campground for 56 years. He retired from Holiday Rambler/Monaco in Wakarusa. Bill was a member of the Indiana Campground Owners Association, the National Association of RV Parks and Campgrounds and Veterans of Foreign War. He and his wife received the Outdoor Hospitality Excellence through Industry Unity Award in 2008. During the winter months he and Bev loved to travel, taking cruises/trips all over the world.

Also surviving are his three children: Aime (Hal) Hoffman, Yellow Creek Lake; Mike (Dara) Long, Warsaw;  Mark Long, Warsaw; 10 grandchildren: Hanna Long, Culver; Kelsey (Nick) Miller, Warsaw; Stacie (Brent) Anderson, Hoffman Lake; Jessica Wynn, Portland, Ore.; Rob Hoffman, Angola; Mariah (Cameron) Shepherd, Columbia City; Aaron Hoffman, Claypool; Isaac Long, Plymouth; Matt Long, Hoffman Lake; Aerial Gilbert, Etna Green. In addition, he is survived by seven great-grandchildren: Avah and Norah Miller; Sawyer, Tripp, Jaxon and Briggs Anderson; Oliver Wynn; and another great-grandchild due in August.

He was preceded in death by wife Beverly Long; son, Timothy Long, who died Jan. 1, 2016; his brother, Ernie Long; and a sister, Betty Sparks.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 16 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw,  with Pastor Rob Seewald officiating with a calling one hour prior to the service. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 15 from 4 to 7 p.m. at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw.   Interment will be in Etna Green Cemetery with military honors rendered by Warsaw American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. Post # 1126.
