AKRON – David Lash, 32, of Mentone, became the newest member of the Tippecanoe Valley School Board during a special meeting Thursday.

Lash fills the opening left vacant by Lacey Wise, whose resignation was approved by the school board during a June 15 board meeting. Wise, in that same meeting, was approved to be hired as a guidance counselor at Tippecanoe Valley High School, which was why she resigned. During the June 15 meeting, Wise said she could not be on the school board of a school district she works for. An application to fill Wise’s position was put on the school corporation’s website. The requirements for the position was the person had to be a resident of Franklin Township and at least 21 years old.

After the school board approved Lash to the board Thursday, he was sworn in by Melinda Kamp, deputy treasurer of the school corporation. His term is 2-1/2 years and will end in December 2022, according to Kamp.

Lash is a TVSC and Huntington University graduate and he farms with his family. Lash said he has lived in the Mentone area all his life with the exception of college.

Lash has been on the county Extension Board and active in Ag Day in Kosciusko County. He also has coached sixth-grade boys basketball.

“I wanted to be on the school board to help lead our school corporation to leave a positive impact on our students,” Lash said.

He said he plans to do that by working with the other members to keep values and morals in the school corporation and is looking to help develop the school corporation’s teaching and administrative staff.
