Mangas turned in his best season yet, posting career-highs with 26.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.8 steals per outing during his junior year, while shooting 55.8 percent from the floor and 38.1 percent from beyond the arc for the Wildcats. Mangas closed the season with 860 total points, topping his own previous program single-season scoring mark.
Mangas ranked second among all NAIA Division II players in total points and also finished 15th with 59 steals and 17th with 135 assists. Those stats helped Mangas earn NAIA Division II and Crossroads League Player-of-the-Year status, in addition to earning his third-straight NAIA All-American honor. Mangas also received recognition for his work in the classroom, being named a CoSIDA Academic All-American.
“Kyle represents the best of the Crossroads League,” stated IWU head men’s basketball coach Greg Tonagel. “He continues to demonstrate not only on-court success, but off-court success as well. He is a person of high character, he is strong in his faith and he is constantly in pursuit of making those around him better.”
Indiana Wesleyan went 29-4 throughout the 2019-2020 season behind the play of Mangas, winning the regular season and tournament titles in the Crossroads League, before having the NAIA National Tournament cancelled for COVID-19.
Over his three-year career at IWU, Mangas has already set the program record with 2,479 points, while helping the Wildcats to a 90-17 overall mark with a trio of CL Championships and one NAIA National Champion-ship.
The Crossroads League Male Student-Athlete of the Year award is nominated and voted on by the 10 athletic directors from the league and announced each summer.
A formal recognition will take place this fall at the annual Crossroads League meeting.
