Governor, 2nd District Candidates Are Guests Of Honor At County Democrats’ Annual Boat Ride

The S.S. LillyPad will depart from the Frog Tavern, 1116 S. Harkless St., Syracuse, at 1:30 p.m. for a three-hour cruise of Indiana’s largest natural lake.
This year’s Boat Ride is sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers local 153, Barbara Keck, State Representative Karlee Macer, Kosciusko County Commissioner candidate Travis McConnell, State Senate District 18 candidate Laura Fred Smith and State Representative District 22 candidate Kelly Thompson.
According to the Democrats’ news release, “We invite local Democrats to join us for a relaxing afternoon on Indiana’s largest (and most beautiful) natural lake! Due to the coronavirus pandemic, masks will be required and we will take everyone’s temperature when they arrive. Furthermore, while the bar will be open on the yacht, we will not be serving food this year.”
Gubernatorial candidate Dr. Woody Myers and Second District Congressional District candidate Pat Hackett will be the guests of honor.
Myers is a third-generation Hoosier, physician, former Indiana state health commissioner, business owner, father, husband and grandfather. He is running for governor to put people first, not politics, the release states. As governor, Myers will “fight to ensure all Hoosiers can access affordable healthcare, students receive a high-quality education, we protect our environment and workers have good-paying jobs across Indiana,” the release states.
Hackett lives in South Bend with her spouse Rita. She has spent four decades serving the people of Northern Indiana as a teacher, an attorney and civic leader. In 2006, Hackett opened her own practice, Hackett & Associates, where she specializes in estate planning, family law and healthcare law. She is also an adjunct assistant professor of law at the Notre Dame Law School, and in the past has served on the adjunct faculty at St. Mary’s College and as a teacher at Marian High School.
Hackett is running for Congress “because she believes in dignity and justice for all, not the monied few, and will once again make the House of Representatives the People’s House,” the release states.
Candidates for state legislative and county offices also will speak during the Boat Ride.
An Admiral sponsorship of $1,000 will include 10 tickets, a Commodore sponsorship of $500 comes with four tickets, and a Sailer sponsorship of $125 comes with two. Every sponsor will have the ability to display a banner on the side of the S.S. LillyPad. Individual tickets are $50 each for adults and $25 for children.
