“We were very excited to be able to have the golf outing again this year,” said Tammy Smith, Grace Village’s Director of Advancement. “This event has always been an important fundraiser for us, but this year it meant much more as it was a chance to be together with friends and supporters of Grace Village after a long time of being apart. There were a lot of logistics to keep everyone safe, but we were able to make it happen.” Funds raised by the golf outing will go toward remodeling the Assisted Living Dining Room in the Grace Village healthcare facility. The remodeled dining room will have height-adjustable tables, easy-to-move aluminum chairs, new vinyl flooring, and an area specifically designed for diners using mobility devices. “The upgrades will improve both the comfort and safety of our residents,” says Smith. With the golf outing proceeds, Grace Village has reached 40% of its fundraising goal for this project.
Participants in this year’s outing competed for five hole-in-one opportunities for large cash prizes and a vehicle. Seventeen teams took part, and as many years in the past, first place went to Silveus Insurance Group. They were followed by the team from Grace College in second and “Blue Crush” of Blue & Co. in third. Longest putt and longest drive contest winners were Everett Nifong, Logan Vetor, Reg Overstreet, Rick Paczkowski and Tyler Ostrom. Andrew Hughes won the putting contest and then got a shot at a 50-foot putt for $10,000.
This year’s event represented the “passing of the torch,” as it was the final golf outing as CEO for Jeff Carroll, who will be retiring at year’s end although he will continue to play in the outing. Carroll, who established the annual event in 2010, thanked supporters by providing a ribeye steak dinner at the Robin Hood Community Center at Grace Village after the event. At the dinner, Carroll introduced his successor as CEO, Justin Kimbrell. Brad Jackson, CEO of TL Jackson Construction was presented with an award certificate for his support of the golf outing since its beginning in 2010. Lake City Bank was recognized for 10 years of sponsorship, and Remodel Health was honored for being the event’s first title sponsor.
