Alyssa Shepherd, the woman convicted by a jury in October for hitting and killing three children and injuring a fourth, is appealing her conviction.

Shepherd was sentenced to four years in the Indiana Department of Corrections’ Rockville Correctional Facility Oct. 18 after a jury found her guilty of reckless homicide, reckless driving causing bodily injury and criminal recklessness. Shepherd had faced 21-1/2 years if given the maximum sentence.

Fulton Superior Court Judge Greg Heller handed her the sentence, to which her attorneys – Michael Tuszynski and David Newman – indicated she planned to appeal and asked for her to remain out on bond.

Heller denied that request.

A notice of appeal was filed Jan. 21 by Shepherd and her new attorney, Stacy R. Uliana.

Uliana, of Uliana Law in Bargersville, was an attorney for former Indiana State Police Trooper David Camm, who was jailed for more than a decade after being convicted of murdering his wife and their two children in 2000. Uliana was part of the legal team for Camm in his second trial and argued his second appeal.

A restitution hearing in Shepherd’s case is set for 1:15 p.m. Feb. 14 in Fulton Superior Court.
