Tippecanoe Valley Comes From Behind To Beat Plymouth

AKRON - After trailing 38-31 after three quarters, host Tippecanoe Valley outscored Plymouth 14-5 over the last eight minutes to take a 45-43 non-conference boys basketball win Saturday night.

Viking fresman Paul Leasure led all scorers with 23 points. Senior Tanner Trippiedi added 11, Dawson Perkins had six points, Tayde Kiser hit a three-pointer and Nolan Cumberland a pair of free throws in the win.

Jake Reichard had 22 points to lead Plymouth.

Valley also won the junior varsity game, 36-31 over the Pilgrims.

Now 5-7, Tippecanoe Valley returns to action Friday, hosting rival Rochester in a Three Rivers Conference tilt.



Trojans Cruise To Win

BOURBON - Triton bolted to a 12-2 lead after the first quarter and exended its lead to 34-11 by halftime in crusing to a 54-41 win over visiting Trinity (Greenlawn) in a non-conference boys basketball game Saturday in The Trench.

Tyler Heckaman finished with a 7-of-9 effort from the floor on his way to a team-high 18 points. Ashton Oviedo hit four three-pointers for 12 points. Tyson Yates had nine points, Jared Bules seven, Quentin Amsden four and Hunter McIntyre and John Gardner with two points each for the Trojans.

In the junior varsity game, Bruce Johnson had 13 points, Nate Amsden 11 and Lucas Cabrera 10 for Triton in a 55-17 win.

Now 5-4 for the year, Triton will travel to Culver Community for a Hoosier North Athletic Conference game Friday.



LCA Falls To Tri-Central

WINONA LAKE - Seth Martin had 23 points and Silas Gagnon added 11 points for Lakeland Christian Academy in its 73-61 non-conference loss to visiting Tri-Central in a boys basketball game Saturday.

Landon Paris added nine points, Brayden Lane had seven, Cameron Shepherd three and Matthew Helton and Peter Keller two points each for the Cougars.

LCA (3-10) hosts Trinity (Greenlawn) Saturday in a Hoosier Plains Conference matchup.



Panthers Handle Wawasee

NAPPANEE – Kennedy White had 12 points and six rebounds, and Jada Carter had 10 points for Wawsee in its 54-33 loss at NorthWood in Northern Lakes Conference girls basketball Saturday.

In the junior varsity game, Ryleigh Cole hit a three-pointer as time expired to give Wawasee a 30-29 win. Becca Smith had eight points and Amari Peete six points in the win.

Wawasee (6-11, 0-5 NLC)?travels to Columbia City for a non-conference game Tuesday.



Dragons Down Cougars

ARGOS - Tori Calizo had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and her sister Jessi added nine points and seven rebounds for Lakeland Christian Academy in its 58-32 road loss to Argos in a girls basketball game Saturday. Finley Hobbs had five points, Natalie Norris four and Alexis Miller two points to round out the Cougar scoring. Jordan Gross collected four rebounds.

LCA (8-10) hosts Fort Wayne Canterbury at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.



N. Miami Bests Manchester

DENVER – North Miami took a 17-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in its 49-29 win over visting Manchester in a Three Rivers Conference girls basketball game Saturday.

Makenzy Meyer and Beletu Stout had sic points each to pace the Lady Squires. Makenzie Day had five points, with Emma Garriott and Kiera Hatfield getting four points each.

In the junior varsity game, Keilan Creager had 12 poitns and Olivia Auler had 10 pints for Manchester in its 30-27 loss to the Warriors.

Manchester (4-13, 2-3 TRC) hosts Peru in a TRC game Wednesday.



Zebras Defeat Wildcats

SOUTH?WHITLEY - Morgan Howard scored six points, and Elizabeth Miller had three points and six rebounds for Whitko in its 63-14 loss to visiting Rochester in Three Rivers Conference girls basketball Saturday.

The Wildcats (1-10) host Lakewood Park for a non-conference game at 7 p.m. Thursday.



Manchester’s Clifford Advances To IHSGW?Finals

MACONAQUAH - Manchester’s Haley Clifford advanced to the state finals by winning three matches Friday at the Indiana High School Girls Wrestling regional at Maconaquah High School.

Clifford, ranked seventh in her weight class, will compete at the finals in Kokomo beginning at 5 p.m. Friday.



Squires Narrowly Win

East Noble Invitational

KENDALLVILLE - Dylan Stroud, Elijah Burlingame, Ashton Moore, and Bryce Kamphues each won individual titles, helping Manchester to win the team championship at Sturday’s East Noble Invitational wrestling meet.

The Squires’ 200 points edged out Huntington North by a point and a half for the team title.

Stroud improved to 25-0 in the 126-pound weight class. Burlingame won at 132 to move his record to 20-6; Moore won at 195 and is now 23-3 overall, and Kamphues was the champ at 285 and is now 15-1 overall.

Zach France (145), Albin Lederhilger (182) and Trevor Dill (220)  finised second in their classes Saturday.

Manchester’s junior varsity competed in a tournament at Northfield, with Gavin Mize (170) and Dyson Rosen (182) going 3-0 and Raven King (132) and Peyton Addair (160) winning two of three matches.

Manchester will host Triton at 6 p.m. Thursday.



Tigers Wrestlers Roll Past Culver Academies

Warsaw wrestlers won a 45-16 non-conference match over Culver Academies at the Tiger Den Saturday.

The matches were held at the east end of the Tiger Den due to water on the the west end of the floor, causing the relocation of Tiger basketball.

Winners for the Tigers were Brock Hogenson, Isaiah Owens, Liam Nolin, Andrew Ross, Angel Mendez, Jose Martinez, Jacob Linky and Jayton Brock.

The Tigers (15-4) host Concord in a Northern Lakes Conference matchup Tuesday.



Vikings Win Guerin Catholic Invitational

NOBLESVILLE – Drake Montelongo, Branson McBrier, and Hagaen Slusher each went undefeated in five matches to lead Tippecanoe Valley to the team title at Saturday’s Guerin Catholic Invitational wrestling meet Saturday.

The Vikings won 64-9 over Shelbyville, 52-27 over Lafayette Central Catholic, 42-36 over Scecina Memorial, 70-12 over Lapel and 37-32 over Lawrenceburg.

Galvin Shambaugh, Hunter Eherenman, Brandon Hammer, Bazle Owens, and Tyler Nine picked up four wins, while Jacob Eherenman and Johnny Gonsalez both won three matches. Also earning wins were Alex Parson, Jacob Manns, Joel Cisneros, and Landon Grossman.

The Vikings return to Three Rivers conference competition Wednesday, traveling to Rochester to take on the Zebras.



Wildcats 2-3 at West Noble

LIGONIER - Whitko wrestlers won two of five matches at the West Noble Duals Saturday.

The Wildcats won 42-18 over Fort Wayne North Side and 40-30 over Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, and fell 36-30 to Mishawaka Marian, 71-12 to host West Noble and 51-21 to LaVille.

Nathan Miller, Robert Werstler, Cody Adkins and Isaiah Kyles each won four of five matches. Jordan Courter, Sam Lozier and Ethan Schuh  son three matches each.

Whitko has a rematch at South Side on Thursday.



Wawasee Swimmers Sweep RedHawks

SYRACUSE - Waeasee’s two swim teams each won over Goshen Saturday, with the Lady Warriors winning 105-81 and the boys taking a 94.5-88.5 win over the visiting RedHawks.

Winners for the Wawasee girls team (6-2, 5-2 NLC) were: Ella Park in the 200 freestyle and 500 free, Kiah Farrington in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Cammy Krider in the 100 backstroke, Nicole Beer in diving, Alexis Mishler  in the 100 free,  the 200 medley relay team of Lily Tyler, Farrington, Kryder and Mishler; and the 400 free relay team of Tyler, Kryder, Park and Mishler.

Wawasee boys (4-3 overall and in the NLC) emerging victorious were Daegon Kingery in the 50 and 100 freestyles, Devin Kuhn in diving, Nate Kryder in the 100 butterfly, Zeke Keim in the 500 free, the 200 freestyle relay team of Karlson Hand, Nate Kryder, Bryce Knepp and Kingery, and the 400 free relay team of Keim, Knepp, Camdon Powell and Kingery.

Next up for the Lady Warriors is the Northern Lakes Conference meet, with preliminaries on Thursday at Northridge. The finals are set for Saturday.

The boys team is off until the NLC meet beginning Jan. 30.



Warsaw Swimmers Drop NLC Meets At Concord

ELKHART - Warsaw swimmers dropped both of their Northern Lakes Conference swim meets at  Concord Saturday, with the Minutemen boys winning 97-86 and the girls by a 143-43 score.

Grant Knight was a double winner for Warsaw’s boys, taking the 200 individual medley ?and 100 breaststroke. Zach LaLonde won the100 backstroke, Nick Bazzoni was second in the 200 freestyle, Michael Ray was second in the 50 and 100 freestyle races and Nathan Taylor was second in the 100 butterfly. The 200 free relay team of Ray, Jacob Monesmith, Bazzoni and Knight won as well.

Top performers for the Lady Tigers were Taylor Gunter, third in the 200 IM and the 100 butterfly; Mariana Malagon, third in the 100 freestyle; Rachel Doyle, third in the 100 backstroke; and Melissa Deming, third in the 100 breaststroke.

Next up for the Lady Tigers is the Northern Lakes Conference meet, with preliminaries on Thursday at Northridge. The finals are set for Saturday.

Both teams will host Culver Academies on Jan. 21.
