Juan M. Ramirez Garcia, 50, of 340 E. Levi Lee Road, lot 139, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 3:06 p.m. Wednesday and faces charges of attempted murder, a Level 1 felony; aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony; domestic battery causing serious bodily injury, a Level 5 felony; battery while armed with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a Level 6 felony; and domestic battery causing moderate bodily injury, a Level 6 felony.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Tuesday in Kosciusko Circuit Court, on Saturday emergency personnel responded to a report that a man had stabbed a woman.
Upon arrival, a Kosciusko County Sheriff deputy approached a group of individuals and asked who was the suspect for the stabbing. The group pointed to Garcia, according to court papers, who police observed was bleeding from the neck and had blood down his shirt.
The female victim was covered in blood, according to court papers, and had multiple stab wounds to her face and head and was wearing a cover over her head to try to stop the bleeding. Police also discovered the woman had been stabbed in the chest and that all of the wounds were inflicted by her husband. The woman was airlifted to Luthern Hospital in Fort Wayne by Lutheran Air.
Police interviewed an adult child in the home, who, according to the affidavit, told police she woke up to her mother and father screaming and went to see what was going on. That is when the child said she saw her mother covered in blood and that her father had a knife. The child also said she was able to get the knife away from Garcia and then attempted to get him to leave the residence, to which Garcia responded by grabbing both of them by the hair and dragging them down the front steps into the yard.
Court papers state that the child told police that once the parties were all separated in the yard that Garcia cut his own throat with a second knife.
There were four minor children present in the home during this altercation, according to court papers.
Police were told by medical personnel on scene that the stab wound to the woman’s chest was deep and created a risk of the death to the woman.
Court records indicate that Garcia has a prior conviction from November 2016 for Level 5 felony intimidation and Level 6 felony battery to a public safety official.
Garcia’s being held without bond.
