According to Michael Lewis, meteorologist with the National Weather Service North Webster office, a winter storm formed over Illinois on Tuesday and gradually shifted into the Great Lakes region overnight Tuesday into this morning.
Tuesday’s rain/snow mix turned into snow overnight and redeveloped after about 4 a.m. this morning. The greatest intensity of snowfall is expected between 4 and 11 a.m. today, with about 2 inches, maybe upward of 3 inches total, Lewis predicted. By 7 p.m. today, the system should be out of the area, he said.
“The biggest thing to keep in mind is that this is going to occur – it’s not that we’re going to end up with massive amounts of snow – it’s just that the timing of it is going to occur during that early morning drive time,” Lewis said.
The National Weather Service urges motorists to plan for extra travel time and to use caution on back roads.
