On Saturday, students from five schools in the Warsaw Community School Corporation attended the Scholastic Chess of Indiana Regional Team Chess tournament at Goshen High School.

The Goshen regional was one of four regional contests around the state.

Grade-level teams of students competed in several rounds of chess against area school corporations with the goal of advancing to the Scholastic Chess of Indiana State Team tournament to be held March 21 at Morton High School in Hammond.

WCS was represented by Edgewood Middle School, Lakeview Middle School and Lincoln, Madison, and Washington elementary schools.

In the eighth grade and under division, Edgewood A, B and C teams will be advancing to state. Lakeview A team will also be advancing to state. In the sixth grade and under division, Lincoln A and B and Washington A and B teams will be advancing to state.

The Lincoln Elementary A team was in the top three in the sixth grade and under division and was presented with a trophy to be showcased in their school.

All third grade and under teams are permitted to go to the state tournament to compete.
