Forged Check Lands Woman In Jail

Sharon Marie Jackson, 40, of 2401 Wooster Road, #65, Warsaw, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 1:59 p.m. Wednesday and faces charges of fraud on a financial institution, a Level 5 felony; forgery, a Level 6 felony; identity deception, a Level 6 felony; and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Jan. 20 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Dec. 13 Warsaw police were dispatched to Beacon Credit Union in regard to someone attempting to cash a fraudulent check.
The bank manager told police a woman came in with an ID that police later determined not to be Jackson’s and tried to cash a check for $431. The bank refused to cash the check without the owner of the account present, court papers state. While employees were attempting to verify the validity of the check, they also contacted law enforcement, court papers state. Jackson and the two other individuals she was with, left. Jackson left behind the ID and the check.
A bank employee was able to take a picture of the vehicles Jackson and the two companions got into. According to court papers, police recognized one of the vehicles as being a suspect vehicle in an investigation at a gas station in Pierceton.
During the course of the investigation, police spoke with the owner of the bank account from which Jackson tried to cash the check. The man told police he did not authorize anyone to write a check, and that specific check was missing from his checkbook, according to the affidavit. When police contacted the woman who owned the ID left behind at the bank, she told police, according to court papers, that her wallet had recently been stolen in Fort Wayne and that she had not give anyone permission to use her identity.
Jackson’s bond was set at $11,100.
