Lady Squires Roll To Sectional-Opening Victory
WALTON – Beletu Stout had 12 points and Ainsley West had 11 for Manchester in its 39-22 win over host Lewis Cass in the opening round of the girls basketball Class 2A Sectional 37 Tuesday night.
The Lady Squires held the home team to four points in each of the first two quarters en route to a 27-8 halftime advantage, and kept Lewis Cass from mounting any serious challenge from that point forward.
“I’m really proud of how much energy our girls came out with and sustained throughout the game on the defensive end of the floor,” said head coach Josh Troyer. “Although we played with jitters early we finished the first half of the game 6 of 14 (43%) from the 3 point line and still passed on shots we could have taken.
“The message was always the same; we needed to survive and advance and I’m proud that we seized the opportunity tonight.”
Mackenzie Day added with points and a team-high six rebounds to the winning effort. Morgan Parrett and Bailey Mooney had three points each, and Makenzy Meyer had two points to round out the Squire scoresheet.
Manchester (7-16) is one of a trio of Three Rivers conference teams left in the sectional. The Lady Squires take on Wabash (11-11) in Friday night’s second semifinal at about 7:30, following Rochester’s (16-7) game with 12-11 Carroll (Flora).
