He was born on Jan. 21, 1961, in Pueblo, Colo., to June Marjorie Sigman Shapiro and Harold Shapiro. On Nov. 24, 1990, he was married in Utica, Ill., to Penelope “Penny” Lynn Munson Shapiro. They shared 25 years of marriage together before she passed away on Aug. 21, 2015.
Michael received his B.S. degree in accounting in 1983 from the University of Connecticut and his JD degree in 1986 from Washburn University School of Law. He later attended New York University School of Law and earned his LLM in taxation in 1987 and his MBA in finance in 1998 from Indiana University.
He had been a resident of Kosciusko County since 2007 and had worked for the past 13 years for Zimmer Biomet as a financial executive. His wife, Penny, was very involved in her children’s school activities and after her death in 2015 he filled that role for his children.
He will be lovingly remembered by his four sons: Matthew, Jacob, Joshua and Samuel Shapiro; and his daughter Hannah Shapiro, all of Warsaw. Also surviving are two brothers: Richard (Amy) Lecocq Shapiro, The Woodlands, Texas; Stuart (Susan) Shapiro, Denver, Colo.; his mother and father-in-law, Bob and Linda Munson, Granville, Ill.; and his brother-in-law, Robert (wife Brai) Munson, Minooka, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Penny; and his parents.
Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Michael’s life at a memorial service that will be conducted at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 6 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, and officiated by Rabbi Paula Winnig of the Congregation Achduth Vesholom. Friends and family may visit prior to the service from 4 to 6 p.m.

A memorial fund for the Shapiro Children will be set up in care of Lake City Bank, donations and may also be left at the funeral home.
