Helen Lucille Grimm, known to most as “Lucille,” age 96, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020, at Peabody Retirement Community Health Care Center in North Manchester.  

Lucille was born on Nov. 24, 1924, in Atwood, to Fred and E. Fern Yeiter Williamson.  She was a 1942 graduate of Atwood High School. Lucille received a certificate from South Bend Business School and then she worked at the South Bend Supply Company in the office.  

On Nov. 25, 1944, Lucille married Glenn W. Grimm at the Fort McClellan Army Base, Anniston, Ala. Glenn served in the army during World War II. After Glenn returned from the war, they farmed with Glenn’s parents, Harvey and Lenora Grimm. They purchased their own farm near Atwood and began their family.

Lucille was a loving, dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was a lifetime member and active participant at the Atwood Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was a member of the United Methodist Women and Prairie Home Economics Club. Lucille loved to crochet, quilt and sew. Her family has many of her beautiful handmade creations.  When wintering in Florida with Glenn, she enjoyed playing shuffleboard and golf with their friends. They travelled extensively around the United States when they retired.  

Glenn and Lucille celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2014. On March 22, 2015, Glenn preceded Lucille in death. Their son, Alan, preceded them in death on Dec. 27, 1987.  Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law: Sharon (Jerry) Forthofer, of Rockwell, N.C.; and Susan (Keith) Ring, of North Manchester; and six grandchildren: Gwen (Steve) Braddock, of Limestone, Tenn.; Matt (Tammy) Forthofer, of Mooresville, N.C.; Brandon (Allison) Ring, of Whitefish Bay, Wis.; Derek (Amy) Ring, of New Lenox, Ill.; Adam Grimm, US Army, Camp Humphreys, Korea; and Ashley (Brent) Doty, of Warsaw. Lucille has been blessed with 14 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Lucille’s siblings preceded her in death: brothers, Lester, George, Arden and Ray Williamson; and sister, Velma Gruenewald.

Titus Funeral Home is assisting the family. Private services will be held today, Dec. 31 with a 12:30 p.m. livestream available to the public through Lucille’s obituary page at www.TitusFuneralHome.com
