Discount Warehouse Makes Donation To Area Schools

By Staff Report-

Discount Warehouse owner Lloyd Bailey made a donation to area schools on Monday, with three semi-trailers filled with a variety of new goods.

Warsaw Community Schools, Wawasee Community Schools and Tippecanoe Valley Community Schools each received a trailer of items.

The new items included hats, gloves, clothing and more that will be used to serve families and students in need within each school district. The estimated retail value of the items is $150,000.

Blaine Conley, superintendent of Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation, said, “We appreciate the support from Mr. Bailey and all of the efforts to distribute this generous donation to our students and families. It’s fantastic to see people in the community step up and help others, especially during the pandemic.”

Within Warsaw Community Schools, hats, scarves, gloves and socks will be given to elementary schools. Physical education departments will be able to use swimwear for students in need. Nurses offices will receive new underwear.  Jewelry, purses and other miscellaneous items will be used for a Trinkets for Teens program.

“This gift to Warsaw Community Schools will make a difference to students and families in every grade level and building in our system. These items will be a great resource to students in need. When these basic needs are met, students can focus on academic needs. We are extremely grateful for this generous donation,” said Dr. David Hoffert, superintendent of Warsaw Community Schools.

Metzger Trucking donated their time and resources to move the semi-trailers to the school systems. Students and staff at each school assisted with unloading and sorting the items.

Warsaw Mayor Joe Thallemer, whose office assisted with coordinating the donation, said, “Now, more than ever, a very generous donation like this has an immediate impact on needs in our community. I’m very grateful to Mr. Bailey for touching so many lives in our community with these items, and to our school systems who are the perfect conduit to connect these items with local families and children.”
