SOUTH WHITLEY - Defense and the dynamic duo of sophomore Kaydence Mellott and senior Sidney Wagner led Tippecanoe Valley High School’s varsity girls basketball team to a 60-31 win at Whitko Saturday afternoon.

In a Three Rivers Conference tussle that saw the junior varsity contest cancelled and the varsity tipoff moved up to 2:30 p.m., Mellott scored a game-high 22 points, while Wagner complimented her with 21 points of her own in the 29-point victory.

The visitors, who improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the league standings won their third game in a row and for the fourth time in their last five outings.

Whitko fell to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the TRC.

Valley set the tone early and led 23-6 after one quarter of play and 36-10 at halftime.

In their current three-game win streak, the Lady Vikings have also defeated Triton by 10 points and Fairfield by 13 points.

Sophomore Corinna Stiles contributed eight points in the winning effort, while senior Hayley Backus tallied six points.

Valley is back in action Wednesday when it hosts Oregon-Davis in a girls\boys doubleheader.

Whitko hosts Prairie Heights on Dec. 29.
