Silver Lake Man Booked After Using Found Debit Card

A Silver Lake man was arrested for fraud after he allegedly used a debit card he found at a gas station to buy car parts and lottery tickets.

Scott A. Coverstone, 58, of 709 N. Lotz Lane, Silver Lake, was booked in the Kosciusko County at 3:08 p.m. Friday and faces charges for fraud, a Level 6 felony; and theft, a Class A misdemeanor.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed Nov. 10 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Sept. 8 Silver Lake police took a report from a woman who said her debit card had been used at the McClure Oil gas station twice that day and was used to buy vehicle parts and lottery tickets.

Police reviewed gas station security footage, according to the affidavit, and were able to identify Coverstone as the man using the card.

When police spoke to Coverstone, according to court papers, he admitted he used a debit card he found at a gas station to make those purchases and said after he used it the second time he threw it away.

His bond was set at $4,000.
