By Staff Report-
The application is open for traditional students, high school seniors or college freshman, planning on attending college in the fall of 2021, according to a news release from Questa Education Foundation.
“Questa believes in developing local talent and commits approximately $1.7 million in funding for loans and scholarships each year,” said Elizabeth Bushnell, executive director of Questa Education Foundation. “Our unique funding model helps students afford college, graduate with less debt and contribute to our regional workforce after graduation.”
Through the Traditional Scholars Program, Questa offers low-interest forgivable loans for students pursuing a certificate, associate’s or bachelor’s degree from an Indiana college or university, stated the release. The program offers a unique way for a student to make up the gap between the cost of attendance and what they can afford to pay. Questa will forgive 50% of the scholar’s loan balance when the scholar lives and works in Northeast Indiana for five years after graduation. Students who attend and graduate from one of Questa’s regional partner schools will receive an additional 25% forgiveness at graduation. Questa partners with 12 colleges and universities in the region.
The Traditional Questa Scholars Program allows a student to borrow up to $5,000 per year for a total of $20,000 for a four-year degree. When scholars meet the qualifying criteria to receive the maximum 75% forgiveness, they only have $5,000 to repay. The forgiveness feature combined with the low, fixed interest rate after graduation makes the program an unbeatable loan option for students and families.
“I believe in the Questa Foundation because it has helped me keep my debt from school low and has helped me go to my dream school in Indiana,” says Michayle Rasbaugh, Questa Scholar. Rasbaugh is studying elementary education at Manchester University and plans on graduating in May 2023.
All students pursuing a variety of majors are encouraged to apply. Specific funding is available for students from Kosciusko County pursuing a healthcare degree, as well as students studying manufacturing-related fields, and female students studying business. In addition to serving traditional students, Questa also has funding opportunities for juniors and seniors in college as well as adult learners through the Contemporary Scholars Program application, open year-round.
