AKRON – Tippecanoe Valley School Board will be asked to rename the Viking Room for former football coach Jeff Shriver at its meeting Monday.

Tippecanoe Valley School Corporation Superintendent Blaine Conley said Shriver was a teacher at TVSC for 30 years and did a lot for the school corporation.

Shriver died in December due to cancer.

“You (the school board) know what he meant to me,” said Conley.

Conley said Shriver is in the Viking ship in the Viking Room.

Conley said the school corporation will put something together that will be read during Monday’s meeting.

The board will also be asked to approve a $65,000 grant.

Over last weekend, TVSC applied for a competitive grant through the Indiana Department of Education and the school corporation received $65,000 from the CARES Act grant with 10% set aside, Conley said. The grant will help with the eLearning initiative at TVSC by purchasing more laptops and WiFi hotspots that they can give to the kids.

“We’re really excited about this,” Conley said.

The board will also hear about where the softball facility project is.

Conley said the grass is growing on the field and the certificate of occupancy is being worked on. The water test was done last week and the school corporation is waiting on the approval.

The school board will also hear about updates on the re-entry plan for “where we’re at as a school corporation,” Conley said. “Things are very fluid, so I don’t have a document for you to look at right now. There’s just a lot of stuff going on. A lot of great stuff going on with having kids back. This has been so uplifting seeing what we’re trying to do with the parent meetings that we have for the eLearning parents.”

The meeting was done Tuesday at each of the school corporation’s building and was required to be part of the eLearning program, Conley said. There was good participation in the meetings.

During Thursday’s meeting, Conley said Monday’s storm did “a number at the school.”

The wind took out the servers on the main campus. “We had to do a lot of rebuilding,” he said. Conley said things should be back to normal later on today.
